One Race. Human Race. The Differences Are Only Skin Deep

Perhaps you’ve seen this phrase before:

“One Race. Human Race. One Blood. Red Blood.”

Or this phrase that shortens it further:

“One Race. One Blood.”

These phrases are excellent reminders that humans aren’t so different after all. Divided we fall. United we stand. We’re stronger together.

One race with many, many ethnicities. One race with many, many languages. Ultimately facing the same struggles, the same challenges, the same triumphs, and the same victories in the human condition.

One race. Human race. The differences are only skin deep. The similarities extend through all of life.

Enjoy the lyrics below which are my summary of humanity’s unity.

“Skin Deep” lyrics / poem by James Barnett

Picking up the pieces of my life
Wanting to leave so much behind
So far there’s been too much strife
Meanwhile I’ve been running out of time
So tired of wars
The endless cycle of conquerors
Who rules over us now
This interchangeable series of faces
Trying to fool us into thinking
That there’s multiple races

You might have heard this already
There’s only one race all along
The human race
That’s all of us
Red, yellow, black, brown, and white
And whatever other variations
The differences are only skin deep
Underneath we’re all the same
One race, human race
One blood, red blood
Cut us and we bleed the same color
We all have the same needs in life

Looking to understand each other
We’re not so different after all
Why must peace only come after fighting
Could there be peace brought peaceably
There’s got to be a better way
One heart, human heart
Here we stand, together at last
Focused on what we can do for each other
In giving we receive
In teaching we learn
In loving we are loved
The solution lies within us
The answers are available

You might have heard this already
There’s only one race all along
The human race
That’s all of us
Red, yellow, black, brown, and white
And whatever other variations
The differences are only skin deep
Underneath we’re all the same
One race, human race
One blood, red blood
Cut us and we bleed the same color
We all have the same needs in life

Picking up the pieces of our lives
Making peace with our past
We’re not so different after all
We have the same needs in life
Eating and drinking
Working and resting
Loving and respecting
Ourselves and others
Could the secret be that there are no others
There’s only us and we’re all one
All of the substance
All of the same source energy
One in all and all in one
Humanity is a family, yeah

You might have heard this already
There’s only one race all along
The human race
That’s all of us
Red, yellow, black, brown, and white
And whatever other variations
The differences are only skin deep
Underneath we’re all the same
One race, human race
One blood, red blood
Cut us and we bleed the same color
We all have the same needs in life
